The Driving TestsTo start to learn you will need a Provisional Driving Licence, currently £38.00 You can get an application form from a Post Office or apply on-line at www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers. You can apply 3 months before your 17th birthday, but cannot start to drive until you are 17 [16 if receiving higher rate disability living allowance].
There are then two tests to qualify for a Full Driving Licence. The Theory Test must be passed before you can take the Practical Driving Test The Theory Test is taken at a test centre. Part 1 includes multiple choice questions on a computer screen. Part 2 involves identifying driving hazards in a series of video clips. The test fee is £30.00. Drive-how will help you to prepare for this test and advise when to apply. The Practical Test is a drive - about 40 minutes - with an examiner. The fee for tests during the normal working day is £56.50.
